Palmer Station Automated Weather Data System observational data, 2001-present (ongoing).

This system also referred to as PAWS to differentiate between the previous system “PALMOS” located on Gamage Point.

Yearly directories contain monthly subdirectories with files containing daily observational data.

Data files and station locations:

  • ARYYMMDD.100- The weather station on Gamage Point

  • ARYYMMDD_BASE.txt - The weather station in the "backyard" of Palmer Station installed in 2016 ran in conjunction with the old weather station on Gamage point for two years.

  • ARYYMMDD_AWS1.txt - Wauwermans Islands weather station (10 miles South East of Palmer Station) D.d: -64.918389 -64.048514

  • ARYYMMDD_AWS2.txt - Joubins Island group weather station (10 miles South of Palmer Station) D.d: -64.786987 -64.360658

  • ARYYMMDD_AWS3.txt – Gossler Island group weather station (10 miles West of Palmer Station) D.d: -64.7129166 -64.348396

File name: ARyymmdd.xxx, where AR stands for Archive, and xxx is the station number.

Column headings are (in order): Date, Time, Unit ID, Wind Speed (2 min average), Wind direction (2 minute average), Wind gust speed (10 minute average), Wind gust direction (10 minute average), Wind gust (10 minute average), Air temperature, Relative Humidity, Dew Point, Pyranometer, Quantum, Air Pressure, Snow level, Melted precipitation (cumulative), Present weather (code number), Present weather (15 minutes ago), Present weather (60 minutes ago), Present weather visibility, Visibility, Cloud base lower level, Cloud base middle level, Cloud base upper level, Vertical visibility, Battery voltage, and Bit-level error code (should be zero except in the presence of instrument failure.)
